very nicely done.. I felt having the student use colored pencils really helpes with seeing where the shadows would fall with more then one light source..

Thanks for sharing.   I was about to suggest that it would make good sense to make sure that they understand the diagram with  a point source.  This can be done by eliminating all the blue lines.  I then realized I could eliminate the blue lines so that eveybody would not have to do it themselves.  It's why we have the activephysicstc.  So here it is.  Becky's diagram with a point source only.

this really helped my class in learning about the umbra etc.  The book asks about the umbra and penumbra in the last question but does not discuss at all what this is.  Just a fyi.
