The What Do You Think question is meant to “Elicit” prior understandings and “Engage” students. What successes did you have in facilitating this?

We take the kids in AC Physics outside with a radar gun supplied by the State Police to measure relative speeds of cars on the Kennedy Expressway at Western Ave. in Chicago.  Then we walk parallel to the Kennedy in the opposite direction at about 2 mph and measure the speeds of cars.  If you do this when the cars are averaging about 25 mph, which is most of the day, this works well.  It does not work so well when the cars go 50+ mph which would be expected and we take the kids out to do this if we can.
