In the For You To Do, students are meant to “Explore” the phenomena of the activity, making careful observations and drawing some conclusions about what is at work. What successes did you have in facilitating this? Did you develop or locate any resources you would like to share with other teachers?

For those students who may get this done faster then other groups you may want to plan ahead and bring some other types of shoes (or if your students have stinky feet Smiley ) or even changing the surface like a patch of grass or an area covered in leaves/pine needles.  Good extension since I seem to always have some group that moves much quicker then others.

Most of my students loved this activity, despite the fact that they were reluctant in taking shoe out.But they didn'tget the expected result.

My classes enjoyed this activity. What really surprised me was the fact that I had entire groups where no one had on athletic shoes!! Instead of using a different type of shoe, they would borrow from a group who had "extras". Most of the students could really explain friction even before we started. They had lots of comments on athletic shoes & different surfaces.
